# Play 3 digit lock puzzle ONLINE
- Mark forbidden digits. Any clue that says “Nothing is correct” eliminates all 3 digits from the code. If you have a printed copy of the Crack the code game, cross out these numbers in all the hints.
- Collect “in-code” digits. Clues that say “One number is correct …” or “Two numbers are correct …” tell you which digits must appear in the code (but watch their positions!).
- Build position rules.
- Right place ⇒ that digit is fixed in that position.
- Wrong place ⇒ that digit cannot be in that position.
- Use the 2-correct-wrong-place clue. It gives you two exact digits of the code and forbids their shown positions.
- Test candidates. Try only 3-digit combinations using the allowed digits and positions. Each candidate must satisfy all clues simultaneously.
# Example of Numeric Lock Puzzle
Suppose the clues are:
- 618 – One number is correct and in the right place
- 463 – One number is correct but in the wrong place
- 459 – Two numbers are correct but in the wrong place
- 286 – Nothing is correct
- 398 – One number is correct but in the wrong place
Crack the lock code puzzle: step by step
Step 1: From 286, we know that 2, 8, and 6 are not in the code because nothing is correct.
Step 2: From 618, one number is correct and in the right place. Since 6 and 8 are impossible, the correct digit must be 1, and it is in the middle.
Step 3: From 463, one number is correct but in the wrong place. Since 6 is impossible, the correct digit must be either 4 or 3.
Step 4: From 398, one number is correct but in the wrong place. Since 8 is impossible, the correct digit must be either 3 or 9.
Step 5: From 459, two numbers are correct but in the wrong place. This helps us decide which digits belong in the code.
Step 6: Test digit 3. In clue 463, 3 would be in the wrong place, so it cannot be third. In clue 398, 3 would also be in the wrong place, so it cannot be first. That would force 3 into the middle, but the middle is already 1. So 3 is not in the code.
Step 7: That means 4 is in the code from clue 463, and 9 is in the code from clue 398.
Step 8: From 459, both correct digits are in the wrong place. So 4 is not first, and 9 is not third.
Step 9: We already know 1 is in the middle. So 9 must be first, and 4 must be third.
Therefore, the secret code is 914.
